The Best in the West?: Los Angeles Rams

HELP IN HOLLYWOOD

It has been two years since the Rams lost the Super Bowl to the Patriots. Much has changed since that game in Atlanta. Tom Brady championed the Bucs to a Super Bowl LV win, Luke Kuechly retired, and Todd Gurley is now a free agent. The Rams paid Jared Goff a record amount of money for him to be a mediocre QB. Goff did throw for more than 4,000 yards, but also had a career high in interceptions and was the 3rd worst rated passer in the NFC West, (Wilson, Murray, Goff, Jimmy G).

The Rams traded three first-round picks and Goff to the Lions for Matthew Stafford. Stafford, when healthy, is a top 10 quarterback. Too many times the terrible Lions O-line contributed to Stafford’s injuries. Stafford, the first pick in the 2011 draft, is one of the most gifted passers in the league. He had a good amount of weapons at his disposal in Detroit, including Calvin Johnson (retired), Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr, De’Andre Swift, and Adrian Peterson. However, the lack of a good offensive line consistently ruined the Lions chances of a playoff run.

The Rams already have a top defense with the best defensive player in the NFL, Aaron Donald, leading the charge. L.A. also has three above-average receivers, Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, and the aging Desean Jackson. Furthermore, the Rams also have rising star running back Cam Akers. Akers, who was dominant in the playoffs, could be set up for a breakout season. On the other hand, the Rams did loose tight end Gerald Everett to the rival Seahawks and star safety John Johnson to the Browns. L.A. also traded longtime defensive end Michael Brockers to the Lions.

  1. Spot on. They will win the nfc west on the way to the SB. Staffford is going to have a big year. He deserves this opportunity.

    • The Rams are loaded on both sides of the ball. I believe the only teams that could stand in their way in the NFC are the Packers and the Bucs.
