Taysom Hill’s Bank Account Explodes

AND POSSIBLY NEW ORLEANS’S FUTURE HOPES

One man is now making more than Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, and Josh Allen combined. One man is making more than Lebron James does yearly with the Lakers. One man was not even a first-round pick. One man has not started more than six games in a season. That man is Taysom Hill.

Taysom Hill is an elite athlete, but not a proven elite QB. He runs like a 220 pound Chris Johnson, trucks like Shaun Alexander, and throws like Big Ben. Hill is one of the most versatile players in the history of the NFL. In 2018, 2019, and 2020, he took snaps at RB, TE, WR, kick returner, and QB. But he never really made an impact at QB, only throwing one TD in 2018 and 2019. When Brees was out for five weeks in 2019, the Saints started Bridgewater instead of Hill. Bridgewater won five straight games and took the Saints from 2-2 to 7-2. At the end of the season, Bridgewater signed with Carolina and Hill who received the franchise tender. The Saints also signed Jameis Winston, the raw but talented QB from Tampa Bay. Hill resumed his usual “gadget” role. But Brees would get hurt again. After fracturing five ribs, Brees would be out for another five weeks.

Hill was dominant in that stretch, winning 4 out of 5 games. He did have an alarming amount of fumbles, but was a great passer. One could argue that Hill was a better QB over the stretch than Brees. Hill is 30 years old, having spent much longer in college than the average QB, but Hill is not the average player. However, Jameis Winston is 27 and has less history of injury. Who is the better option?
