NFL Week 5 Takeaways

THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE UGLY

1. New England is Not a Contender

The Pats looked lost in the first three quarters with a stagnant offense and a weak defense. Texans’ QB Davis Mills looked like a superstar and Mac Jones was mediocre, at best. Jones finally put together a game-winning drive, but the Pats still have some issues to work out.

2. Tank Bowl in London

The Jets and the Falcons came into Tottenham Stadium hungry for wins. Zach Wilson struggled, throwing an interception and bad passes all around. However, New York put things together late, but too late. The Falcons had already secured the win. Coradalle Patterson was good, while Kyle Pitts had a breakout game.

3. Carolina Needs CMC

Things were looking up for Sam Darnold, until the last two weeks. Darnold threw two picks against the Cowboys matching the two in a loss against the Eagles. Furthermore, the Panthers’ defense looked below average in the second half. It appears that Darnold needs to take things slower and settle down. Thankfully, CMC should return next week and they need him.

4. Raiders are in Deep Trouble

Even prior to Jon Gruden’s resignation, the Raiders’ season appeared problematic. Las Vegas looked strong in the first three weeks, but things went off the rails in Week 4 with a big loss to the Chargers. Week 5 was worse against the Bears. The Raiders generated almost 0 offensive yards in the first half with no improvement in the second. Justin Fields and the Bears marched down the field easily, and Jon Gruden’s defense had no answer. The Raiders are playing in a stacked division, and they need to get better and turn it around.

5. Judge on the Blazing Seat

With injuries galore on the offense, the New York Giants have a lot to overcome. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley both went out in the first quarter followed by Kenny Golladay later in the game. Joe Judge has not improved the Giants in two years as head coach, and New York is done being patient.
