NFL Week 5: Overreactions, Analysis, and Superlatives

What Happened To The Rams?

Oftentimes the Super Bowl runner-up experiences the “Super Bowl hangover”, but rarely, the winning team. However, so far, the Rams appear lost out on the field. Matthew Stafford led the league in interceptions for the first four weeks this season. Cam Akers still doesn’t look 100% from his torn achilles in 2021, and Allen Robinson is apparently invisible out on the field. On the other hand, Aaron Donald is his usual self, but lacking an effective edge threat (Von Miller) he has a hard time creating a massive impact. Cooper Kupp has been the only bright spot on a deplorable offensive. I believe that Sean McVay can turn things around, but the clock is ticking.

The Cowboys Have A Legit QB Controversy.

Before this season no one would put Cooper Rush and franchise guy in the same sentence, but here we are. But, the problem is the Cowboys already have a franchise guy with a massive contract. Cooper Rush is 4-0 as a starter with pretty decent stats: 839 yards and four touchdowns with zero turnovers. While he hasn’t been spectacular, he has done things that Dak couldn’t, which is knowing when a play is broken and when there is time for a checkdown and not just a touchdown. Is he going to replace Dak in the long term, not likely, but he can put some pressure on Dak to return quicker.

The Packers Need To Run The Dang Ball.

When a team has two very solid running backs usually they try to get them the ball often, but that’s not true in Green Bay. For instance, the Packers’s frustrating loss last week to the New York Giants when they ran the ball 16 times. Here’s the real frustrating truth, Aaron Jones had 40 yards in 9 carries, putting him on track for around 120 yards with around 30 carries. Come on. Case in point, the Pack’s biggest struggle thus far is sticking to the run game. It shows when they can’t control the ball as demonstrated last week. Meanwhile Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been great because he hasn’t been able to set up the pass game without an effective rushing attack. Hope Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff can figure out a game plan before they face the 3-2 Jets on Sunday.
