NFL Week 1 Takeaways and Analysis

The Packers, Rams, and 49ers Will Be Ok.

After a tough loss it is easy to overreact and declare a team doomed. But hold off. Week 1 is mostly a tune-up game for some guys who did not play in the preseason, for example, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford. Rodgers needs a little time to gel with his receivers, and he will. Trey Lance and Stafford will get there as well.

Is Belichick Done?

The New England Patriots looked abysmal in Week 1. Mac Jones appeared flat and made some bad throws, including a pick to Jevon Holland. Meanwhile, Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson were underutilized with neither breaking the 60 yard margin. Furthermore, New England’s defense could not stop Tua, who really did not have a great game. If the Pats look like this for the remainder of 2022-23, is it curtains for Belichick?

Dak Out, Dallas Done.

So Dallas looks pretty bad. Their offense put up a pitiful performance against the Bucs. Ceedee Lamb only nabbed 2 catches and partly because Dak Prescott fractured his thumb. Does not get much worse than that for a Week 1 debut. With Dak out until Week 5 or 6, Dallas will face the Bengals, Eagles, and the Giants without him. If they can make it out 1-3 with Cooper Rush, they should consider that a win.

Pay Lamar Jackson!

Lamar Jackson’s biggest critics have always said that he cannot be an effective pocket passer. Well, on Sunday, he proved that he can be. Two days after turning down a $290 million dollar contract from the Ravens, Jackson threw for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Ravens front office needs to pay this man before he goes elsewhere for more money.
