NFL Draft 1st Round Surprises

DEREK STINGLEY AT #3

Derek Stingley was a solid mid or late first-round pick, but the Texans took a gamble on the skilled corner at 3. Stingley is very talented but dealt with injury issues at LSU, and with Sauce Gardner still on the board, I’m not too high on this pick.

MALIK WILLIS FALLS TO #86

Malik Willis is a great athlete without a doubt, but he apparently needs more polish to be a franchise QB. However, his fall to the third round was surprising. Tennessee snatched him up, and fortunately, he will have some time to develop behind Ryan Tannehill.

LIONS TRADE UP FOR JAMESON WILLIAMS

Jameson Williams is said to be the most “NFL-ready” receiver in this class, and the Lions traded up from 32 to 12 with the Vikings to grab him. The Lions only had to give up a fourth and 32 to grab Williams, who should add another weapon to the young Detroit receiving core.
