How the Tampa Bay Bucs Can Reload in 2022

1. Trade for Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson will never be Tom Brady, but despite not playing in 2021-22, he remains a top-tier QB. Watson would mesh well with Tampa’s Spread Offense featuring Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. On the other hand, Houston should net a first-round pick and maybe a couple of second-rounders with a Watson trade. Bruce Arians can mold Watson into the future of Tampa and, hopefully, keep them in playoff contention for the coming years.

2. Resign Fournette and Godwin

Playoff Lenny accounted for the most part of Tampa’s offense and was the X-Factor in the 2021 Super Bowl run. Usually, I’m hesitant to believe teams should pay running backs, but Lenny will return on the investment. Remember, he’s a young running back with excellent strength and sneaky speed.

In Week 15, Chris Godwin tore his ACL and Tampa sorely missed him in the playoffs. He is your 10 catch-a-game guy who can play in the slot and outside. Godwin, who played on the franchise tag last season, should receive a big offseason contract.

3. Rebuild the Defense

Devin White, Vita Vea, and Antoine Winfield Jr. are the foundational pieces. However, Tampa needs to rebuild their secondary and get younger at corner. Richard Sherman only played three games and was mediocre. Meanwhile, Sean Murphy-Bunting was injured often. Tampa has the means to pick up a decent corner in free agency or grab one in the draft. Marcus Maye, who is a free agent from New York, fits the Tampa defensive scheme perfectly alongside Winfield. Maye is a rangy, hard-hitting safety who can play both the free and strong spots.
